Four, for Exion Face and Exion Body: that is the course both human studies used, 7 to 14 days apart for the face, and it is our protocol. One to three for Exion Fractional RF, four to eight weeks apart, in our practice, because the skin needs time to heal between fractional treatments. The manufacturer publishes no session count of its own, so the numbers come from the studies and from what we see at the three-month review. Why four, close together
Exion Face and Exion Body warm the skin and the layer beneath it to 40 to 45°C, the range in the US clearance summary, and the Face and Body applicators add targeted ultrasound. In the Face study, four sessions of up to 60 minutes a week or two apart raised hyaluronic acid in the skin by 49% at one month and 68% at three months, against 7% and 10% with radiofrequency alone. In the body study, with a device matching Exion Body,, four sessions left the fat layer 16% thinner at one month and 22% at three and six months. One session warms the skin; the change comes from the course, in our experience, and shows over the three months after it.
Fractional RF is different
Exion Fractional RF puts a grid of fine needles into the skin and delivers radiofrequency through them, so each session is a controlled injury the skin repairs. That repair takes weeks, which is why the sessions are four to eight weeks apart and why one to three is the course rather than four. In our experience acne scars and deeper texture usually need three, lighter texture one or two. In our experience the skin is red for one to three days after each, sometimes up to five. Two applicators, one visit
Exion Face and Fractional RF are often planned together on the face, in the same course or in sequence, and the written quote says whether a combined session counts as one or two for the price. After the course
